The biggest job of city council is approving the city's annual budget. Every year I have served I have supported a very transparent budgeting process in which council goes through every line item of every department budget in several meetings that are open to the public. I am happy to report that we have passed a balanced budget every year I have served! How many governments can say that?
*Advocated for the use of modern technology to help our officers fight crime and keep us safe. This includes the use of laptops in all vehicles, drones, license plate readers, etc.
*Advocated for the addition of K-9 units to assist our officers.
*Advocated for body cameras to protect our men and women in uniform.
*Advocated for the use of Chevy Tahoes for better lines of sight and more room for the wide array of equipment officers need to do their jobs well, while supporting Parma's biggest taxpayer.
*Supported providing our fire fighters and E.M.S. workers with the tools they need to provide excellent service to our community
*Supported the building of a 21st century dispatch center to better serve our residents
From the widening of Pleasant Valley, the repaving of Ridge Road, West 54th Street, and hundreds of miles of other streets, I have been a vocal advocate of using your dollars, as well as seeking federal, state, and county grants to address our roads and streets over the years.
I have been committed to attracting and retaining businesses in and to Parma to enhance the selection of good and services offered to our residents, as well as to create jobs and enhance our tax base. For instance, since I joined council I advocated for the renovation of Parmatown Mall into the Shoppes at Parma, the University Hospitals purchase and investment of tens of millions of dollars in Parma Hospital, and many other projects.
With Mayor DePiero, I led the effort on city council to bring in the county sanitary engineer to help us address our aging sewer lines. Since the program began, millions of dollars have been expended to camera and clean hundreds of miles of sewer lines, replace and reline aging lines, and rebuild collapsed lines, create swails, underground storage tanks, and other features to hold water so that our lines are no overwhelmed during a bad storm event, among many other projects. This work continues!
As a runner of over 100 marathons, I am committed to my own health and an advocate for the health of others. Since joining council, we have accomplished a lot, including the creation of the city splash pad, expansion of walking trails, the improvement of Ridgewood Golf Course, the building of the All Kids Playground and Warrior Course, etc.
Since joining city council I have been a strong advocate of helping our seniors. In fact, during my tenure our senior center has won awards for its great service to our seniors. I have held special events for seniors to educate them about programs they are eligible for from the federal, state, and local governments, as well as non-profit and for-profit organizations.
Once again, I have set the expectation that our building department enforce our building codes consistently. This was especially a challenge during the economic downturn now known as the Great Recession. During that time, we had hundreds of homes in foreclosure. Well, my colleagues and I weathered that storm and our neighborhoods are now stronger than ever with virtually no vacant homes and property values rising over 20% in just the past year!
I worked closely with residents, Mayor DePiero, and developers to remove the blighted court building and replace it with new homes at the end of Gerald and Kenneth Avenues near West 54th Street.
I led the effort on City Council to provide CodeRed services to our residents.

I worked very closely with Mayor DePiero and my colleagues on city council to close two outdated fire stations and build the new ones on Snow and Pearl Road. My father-in-law and retired Parma firefighter, Tom Denk, was a wonderful resource for me on these projects.
