Sean Patrick Brennan for Ohio House, 14th District: endorsement editorial

The residents of the Ohio House District 14, which comprises Parma, Parma Heights and parts of Old Brooklyn and Brooklyn Centre in Cleveland, have a treasure in Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan. If they are wise, they will send him back to Columbus for a second term.
Brennan, 54, of Parma, served on Parma City Council for 18 years – the last 10 as council president – and taught social studies to middle school and high school students for 28 years before his election to the state legislature in 2022. He is the kind of committed public servant that voters can be confident will represent their interests with honesty and wisdom, no matter what their political party happens to be.
He stresses his commitment to collegiality rather than partisan bickering – a healthy approach for a Democrat in a heavily Republican House.
“I taught my students the importance of building bridges, always taking the high road, and I feel a really heavy responsibility to practice what I preached to those 8,000 students I had in class all those years,” said Brennan, who spoke movingly of his emotions as he watched Gov. Mike DeWine sign into law the first bipartisan bill he had shepherded through the legislature.
“This is not just a talking point for the election,” he said, pointing to his 96% bipartisan rating in his first term. “This is my life’s work as a teacher, as a councilman and now as a state legislator.”
Brennan doesn’t agree with his Republican colleagues on everything, of course, most notably arguing for more funding for public schools and for holding utility companies to account in their pricing and billing procedures.
We enthusiastically urge voters to return Sean Patrick Brennan to Columbus on Nov. 5, so he can continue his good work for the people of District 14 and the state as a whole. Early voting begins Oct. 8.
